Overview

The share of Georgia children aged 19 through 35 months who are up to date on each recommended vaccine (DTaP, polio, MMR, Hib, hepatitis B, varicella, pneumococcal, hepatitis A, rotavirus) and on the combined 7-vaccine series, from the Georgia Department of Public Health's annual coverage studies of the GRITS immunization registry, report years 2018-2025. Statewide and for all 159 counties, plus statewide breakdowns by race, ethnicity, age band and insurance type. A child is up to date when every dose was correctly given by 36 months of age. County figures cover only children with a Georgia address in the registry, about half of them.

Row grain: One row per year, county_fips, tract_geoid, race, ethnicity, age_bracket, insurance_type, vaccine.

Variables

Every column in the fact table. The code is the exact field name the API returns.

county_fipsCounty FIPSstring——yes5-digit county FIPS code, matched from DPH's county name through the counties dimension: the county of the first complete Georgia address on the child's registry record. NULL on statewide rows. Children with no Georgia address (DPH's 'unknown' county, 44-48% of each year's children) have no county row and are counted in the statewide rows only.

raceRacestring——noDPH race group (any ethnicity: each includes Hispanic children); 'all' is every child.
Full description
Child's race as recorded in GRITS, DPH's statewide race table (topic-specific, not the shared demographic axis): white, black (Black or African American), asian, native_american (American Indian or Alaska Native), pacific_islander (Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander), other (Other Race) and unknown; 'all' is every child. Each race group includes Hispanic children (white is White of any ethnicity, not non-Hispanic White), so a race group is never added to or compared as a share with the ethnicity column's 'hispanic'. The groups are mutually exclusive and their counts sum to the 'all' total. DPH publishes no two-or-more-races group. Statewide rows only; every county row and every non-race statewide row is 'all'.

Child's ethnicity as recorded in GRITS, DPH's statewide ethnicity table: hispanic (Hispanic or Latino, of any race), not_hispanic and unknown; 'all' is every child. Separate from race (DPH never crosses them): a Hispanic child is also in one of the race groups. The three groups are mutually exclusive and sum to 'all'. Child's age band as DPH publishes it: 19_24_months (19 through 24 months) or 25_35_months (25 through 35 months, about four in five children); 'all' is every child. The report does not say on which date age is measured. The two bands are mutually exclusive and sum to 'all'. Statewide rows only; every other row is 'all'.

insurance_typeInsurance Typestring——noWho covered the child's vaccine doses; any_public_insurance overlaps only_public and multiple_insurance_types.
Full description
How the child's vaccine doses were covered, in DPH's words (statewide insurance table): only_public (public insurance only: Medicaid, PeachCare, and insurance for American Indians and Alaska Natives), only_private (any non-public insurance), multiple_insurance_types (some doses covered by private insurance and some by public), only_insured_without_vaccine_coverage (private insurance that does not cover vaccines without a copayment or coinsurance), uninsured, unknown, and any_public_insurance (at least one dose covered by public insurance), which contains every only_public child and overlaps multiple_insurance_types (in DPH's adolescent report, which publishes counts, some children with multiple types have no publicly covered dose): never add it to the others. 'all' is every child. DPH publishes no child count for these groups (num_children is NULL). Statewide rows only; every other row is 'all'.

pct_up_to_dateShare Up to Datenumberproportion—yesShare of the group's children aged 19-35 months up to date on the vaccine (all doses by 36 months).
Full description
Share of the group's children (num_children) up to date on the vaccine: every required dose correctly given by 36 months of age, per the GRITS registry. DPH's published percent (one decimal) divided by 100, so 0.752 = 75.2%. County figures are DPH estimates for the children with a Georgia address in the county; small counties (from 20 children) are published as is, including 1.0.
num_childrenChildrenintegercount—yesChildren in the group: the GRITS records of the report's birth window after DPH removed records with no childhood vaccine, out-of-state, duplicate, test and birth-placeholder records and those of children who died, as published ('Total by ...'; the Georgia total is the N in the report's chart title). The denominator of pct_up_to_date. The same count on all ten vaccine rows of a group, so never add it across vaccines. A county's count covers only children DPH assigned to it by address, not its population; the Georgia total (286,826 in 2025) also holds the children with no Georgia address, so the counties never add up to it.

population_mismatch_flagPopulation Mismatch Flagboolean——yesTrue when DPH flags the county: its registry count is 20% or more off the expected number of children.
Full description
DPH's Flag (an asterisk in the report): true when the number of children the GRITS registry assigns to the county from addresses is at least 20% more or fewer than the number of children aged 19 through 35 months expected from that year's population data in DPH's OASIS, which DPH attributes to inaccurate or incomplete address data; false otherwise. A flagged county's figures are less reliable, and DPH asks that all county figures be read as estimates, flagged or not. Describes the county-year (the same on all ten vaccine rows), not part of the row's key.

Notes & limitations

NULL handling

  • Zero is a real, reported value.

Limitations

County rows cover only children with a Georgia address in the GRITS registry: 44-48% of each year's children have none (DPH's UNKNOWN county) and count in the statewide rows only, so counties never add up to Georgia. DPH asks that county figures be read as estimates and flags 52-88 counties a year (population_mismatch_flag) whose registry count is 20% or more off the expected number of children. Every race group includes Hispanic children and ethnicity is a separate table (not the platform's demographic codes, whose race groups are non-Hispanic); the race, ethnicity, age and insurance breakdowns are statewide only and never crossed. County counts are not county populations. num_children repeats on every vaccine row of a group: never add it across vaccines. The insurance rows have no count (DPH publishes none), and any_public_insurance overlaps only_public and multiple_insurance_types. Figures count doses recorded in GRITS, not a survey: doses given out of state or never entered are missed, so coverage is understated where records are sparse (on the 7-vaccine series the unknown race and unknown ethnicity groups are below the statewide figure in every year), and DPH chose the 19-35 month ages to match CDC's National Immunization Survey (NIS-Child), whose survey estimates these are not. The cohort is the registry records DPH kept (records with no childhood vaccine, out-of-state, duplicate, test and birth-placeholder records and children who died removed). A county is the first complete Georgia address on the child's record; DPH notes that counties bordering other states may have children vaccinated out of state, and counties with much moving in and out (military bases) may show lower coverage because children leave before finishing their vaccines. DPH suppresses nothing: county cohorts as small as 20 children are published as they are, some at 100% coverage, so small counties swing from year to year. Percents are published to 0.1 point. The registry cohort shrank relative to births over 2018-2025 (about 1.37 times the births of its birth window in 2018 and 0.98 in 2025, our check against OASIS births), so each year counts a different mix of records and trends partly reflect registry cleaning, not only vaccination. All eight reports (2018-2025) use one method, all registry records; DPH's studies before 2018 sampled children and are not in this series. DPH regenerates the reports in place; these are as retrieved 2026-10-24. The public health district table is not served. tract_geoid is always NULL.
